Important Points of Interest:
- No school on Monday, January 21st
- Reminder about the reading books that come home on Wednesdays: New books come home on Wednesdays with a slip to fill out after you have previewed the book with your child and helped them with any difficult words (if the book is challenging please fill it out after reading it at least twice with your child). Some of the students will be able to sit down and read the book to you without much difficulty while others need a little help with a few words. Remember to ask them questions about the book after you have read it together. I will do my best to send home a "just right book" for your child. I review the slips on Tuesday and based on what you marked I try to choose a more challenging or less challenging book (if possible). If your child has lost the slip of paper you can just use a sticky note to let me know how things went. During guided reading, I have taught students to "get their mouth ready" for the letter sound at the beginning of the word, look at the picture to see what would make sense, and (if they are still struggling) look at the ending sound and letter sounds in between.
- Please continue to send in snow boots as long as there is snow on the ground. Snow pants are optional. I know the snow gear can be hard to keep dry and organized every day. Students can still play on the playground in their snow boots even if they don't have snow pants. Those who have snow pants can go onto the field to play in the snow.
Looking ahead:
- We will celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week Jan.28th- Feb. 1st. Look for the NLSW art display in the Welcome Center before and after the church services the weekend of Jan. 26th and 27th. This week is FULL of fun activities such as a Pancake breakfast on Wed. the 30th and a whole school BMX assembly on Friday the 1st!
Special Dress Days for NLSW (1/28/19-2/1/19):
Monday: Tourist Day-Travel back to your favorite destination, enjoy sight-seeing, or wear a favorite shirt you purchased on your trip.
Tuesday: Holiday Day-Dress as your favorite holiday...no matter what time of year it is!
Wednesday: PJ Day-Wear pajamas/sweats
Thursday: Circle of Life Day-You can be as old (or as young) as you want to be today. Baby? Grandparent? Be any age you want.
Friday: Class Choice Day- Our class voted to dress in athletic wear. Students can dress like they would be going to gym/workout or in their favorite sports gear.
- We will celebrate the 100th day of school in our classroom on Wednesday, Jan. 30th. Start thinking of something your child can collect in a baggie to display in the hallway. I will hang up each baggie so students can get a visual of how different 100 can look depending on size and shape.
