We have a full week under our belt! Our Play Plans are in full swing and I am excited to see the students grow through this experience. This week we were able to work closer to our planned class schedule. I have made a few minor adjustments along the way and I am hopeful that next week we will be in full schedule mode so I can make any needed adjustments before we start guided reading after Labor Day.

- Red Folders are coming home every day. This will help your child get in the habit of taking these home and bringing them back every day. I would like your child to unpack their backpack by themselves to start building independence. During the week the Red Folder will have things your child might have made during their Play Plan or a math sheet that they missed. The bulk of their papers will come home on Friday. There are some papers I am keeping for their portfolio to send home at the end of the year.
- I am having difficulty finding time to write on the Comment Sheets of my half-day students before they leave for the day. My plan is to try to take a break during morning recess to write on my half-day students' sheets.
- There will be a speech-language screening held at Zion on Sept. 21st. The cost is $20 per child and the screening will be conducted by LASE licensed speech-language pathologist. I have put a permission slip with more information in a few Friday folders of students whom I have noticed some speech sound difficulties. Anyone can be screened, so if you did not get a form and you would like your child screened for $20, just email me and I will send one home on Monday. Age plays a part in speech and when specific sound interventions may begin, so the screening may flag a sound to watch but might not require anything at this time.
- Look for a special email coming home about how to log into your child's SeeSaw account. SeeSaw is an online portfolio of sorts. My plan is for students to log into their account (using a QR code) and record themselves singing their memory verse assignments. I will be sending home information about how you can log on to their account to watch and keep these special memories. This is the first time I have used SeeSaw (however I have used Google Classroom in the past with my older students) and I am excited to learn more fun ways to document their learning and special memories for you.
- Kindergarten Play Ground Night! Tuesday, Aug. 28th from 6-7 come and hang out on the Zion playground! Meet some of your child's friends and make some new friends of your own. We will have popsicles!! You will want to park by the main playground/main school building/back of the church. The doors to our Early Childhood wing on the Sonshine Center side will be locked. Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday night.
- A friendly reminder that the doors will lock at 8:15 am in all buildings. If you arrive after 8:15 please follow the below procedures:
- Use the main school entrance, located next to Zion church.
- Ring the bell and the secretary will open the door.
- Check-in at the school office. You will be required to sign-in and order your child’s hot lunch (if needed)
- You will walk your child to his/her classroom. For the safety of all our children, please DO NOT send your child from the office to our classroom by his/herself. We may be in a location other than our classroom, and our classroom doors are locked during the school day (from 8:15 - 3:00).
Thank you for your understanding as we strive to keep our school environment safe for everyone.
