We had a great CAMPING DAY! It was crazy busy at the end of the day trying to get everyone packed up but we did it! I am looking forward to Opposite day on Thursday (9/13/18)! We will do a few fun centers with our 4th-grade friends again!

Important Points of Interest:
  • Today was our first visit to the library! Our library has been remodeled and rethought, and it is an awesome place to sit back, lounge, and enjoy a good book. We are grateful to the many volunteers who put in tons of hours to help put together this beautiful new space. Kindergarteners are allowed to check out 1 book per week. Our scheduled library time is every Friday from 10-11. Books are due back every Friday.
  • We also started writing workshop for the first time today. Every Friday, while half the class is at the library with Mrs. Runge, the other half will stay with me for a writing lesson. Students will switch after 30 min. You can see their first story in their folders. They did a great job.
  • A small writing packet is coming home with small reminder posters stapled together for each student. These are meant for the students to put in their rooms or workspace to help guide them as they begin to become authors and illustrators. It will also give you an idea of ways to help your child begin to write. The first card reminds students of the correct pencil grasp. It is important to correct an incorrect pencil grasp. The longer a student uses the incorrect grasp the harder it is to correct. I have some tools that I will start using to help a few students get used to the feel of the correct grasp.
  • A permission slip is coming home today for our Eagle Fork Pumpkin Farm Field Trip on October 17th. I am in need of parent drives. If you would like to help, please let me know and make sure you have contacted mthomason@zionharvester.org and completed a drivers background check. These are only valid for one calendar year.
  • Mark your calendars for Dad's Day which is on Sept. 21st. We will have a "normal" day until 12:45, which is when our dads will arrive. Please let me know if you are not able to make it. I realize sometimes it is hard to get time off of work. We will work something out if dad is not able to make it.
Looking ahead to next week:
  • Opposite Day in on Thursday (9/13/18). This is another dress down day! Students can wear regular clothes and express their "opposite" knowledge. We will be doing some fun and educational activities with our 4th-grade buddy class again.
  • No School on Friday (9/14/18)!
